Alice Clara Hansen, one of five children of Ella Sophia (Schoening) and William Frederick Roenfeld, was born in her parent's farm house near Mineola, Iowa on April 12, 1920. The farm home where her father, sister, and brothers were born was built of red brick by her grandfather in 1868. Alice was baptized and later confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola. She attended Vogler School near Mineola through the 8th grade, and then helped on the farm and cleaned homes in the Mineola and Silver City area.
Alice and Wallace Wayne Hansen were united in marriage on June 29, 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola. They made their lifelong home on the farm where Wallace grew up near the small community of Dumfries, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Joyce Elaine and Janelle Kay. Alice enjoyed being a farm wife and mother and especially cherished time spent with her husband and her family. She enjoyed gardening and canning, growing beautiful flowers, taking care of the farm cats, raising chickens, baking cookies and embroidering.
Alice was a lifelong and faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school for a number of years. She and Wallace always helped and washed dishes at the annual St. John Lutheran Church Heritage Dinner. She was a member of the Mineola American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Blue Bird Sewing Club and the Mineola-Silver City Senior Citizens.
Alice collapsed at her home and died at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on March 12, 2008, at the age of 87 years and 11 months. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Emma Roenfeld; and brothers, Lee Roenfeld and his wife Ellen, Clarence Roenfeld, and Elmer Roenfeld and his wife Eileen.
