Barbara Lou Mcclure

Barbara "Bobbie" McClure, 86, of Malvern, passed away December 29, 2013 at the Tabor Manor Care Center in Tabor, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 3, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern with Reverend Carl Phillips officiating. Burial will be at the Malvern Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. prior to the funeral services.

Memorials: Odyssey Hospice, Malvern Volunteer Fire, or Malvern Volunteer Rescue Departments.

Barbara Lou (Cowell) McClure, one of nine children of Robert W. and Gertrude Ellen (Farr) Cowell, was born on December 28, 1927 in New Sharon, Iowa. Fondly known as Bobbie, she grew up and attended school in New Sharon. Her family eventually moved to the Shenandoah, Iowa area where Bobbie met her future husband.

Bobbie and Wayne LeRoy McClure were married on February 21, 1946 in Lawrence, Kansas and their marriage was blessed with four children, Sharon, Betty, Thomas, and Michael. In 1954, the family moved to Malvern, Iowa where Wayne worked as a semi driver for Waller Transfer. The family moved to Iraan, Texas where Wayne worked various jobs in the oil fields before returning to Malvern in 1965.

Bobbie was a member of the Malvern Baptist Church, Deborah's Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She worked at Mulhollands Grocery in Malvern then waitressed at The Oasis Lounge in Glenwood, Iowa until her retirement. She did work briefly at Collins Drug in Malvern. Among Bobbie's enjoyments were quilting, reading, and working word puzzles. Her pride and joy were her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Bobbie and Wayne were married 54 years when Wayne passed away on March 14, 2000. Bobbie continued to live at the Malvern Village before moving to the Tabor Manor Care Center in Tabor, Iowa in December 2012.

Bobbie passed away at the Manor in Tabor on December 29, 2013 at the age of 86 years and 1 day. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Gertrude; brothers, Max and Glen Cowell; and sisters, Lorene Malcom, Roberta Baughman, Leona Shinpaugh, Vivian Sullivan, Virginia Beadle, and Jeana Rysdam.

Bobbie is survived by her children, Sharon Larson and husband Darwin of Fargo, ND, Betty Hays and husband Robert of Malvern, Tom McClure and wife Nicky of Ocean Springs, MS, and Mike McClure and wife Sandra of Winnsboro, LA; 12 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren, with two more great grandbabies and one great-great grandbaby on the way in 2014; brother-in-law Jim McClure and wife Cathy of Malvern; sister-in-law Maida McClure of Destin, FL; many nieces, nephews and other relatives; and a host of friends.
