Barbara Ann Thomas

Barbara Thomas, 85, of Glenwood, passed away on June 7, 2017 at the Northcrest Living Center in Council Bluffs. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola with Rev. Luke Kuenzli officiating. Burial will be at the Mineola Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12th at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Barbara Ann Thomas, one of five children of Carl Edmund and Marie (Ware) Finkle, was born on August 2, 1931 at Grant, Iowa. She grew up in the Villisca, Iowa area where she attended school in Villisca through the 11th grade, later receiving her GED. Barbara worked as a bookkeeper for 37 years for the family business "Thomas Brothers" and at UNMC in Omaha, Nebraska before retiring in 1996.

Barbara and Norman Francis "Sam" Thomas were married on August 7, 1948 at Brooks, Iowa. They made their home in the Corning and Villisca, Iowa area and their marriage was blessed with three children, Marilynn Ann, Norman Lee "Sammy", and Rebecca Lynn.

Barbara and Sam moved from their home in Mineola, Iowa to Glenwood, Iowa in 2001.
Barbara was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola, Order of Easter Star, where she served as Worthy Matron, and the Neighborhood Women's Club, where she served as president. Barbara was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a good friend to all her knew her. She loved spending time with her family, making many unforgettable memories.

Barbara and Sam were married nearly 55 years when Sam passed away on July 26, 2003 in Omaha. Barbara continued to make her home in Glenwood.

Barbara passed away on June 7, 2017 at the Northcrest Living Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In addition to her beloved husband Sam, she was also preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter Leisha Marie Thomas; sisters, Betty Lou Harrison and husband Richard, and Donna Marie Grosse and husband Richard; and brother Carl E. Finkle, Jr and wife Patricia.

Barbara is survived by her children, Marilynn Angeroth and husband Don of Council Bluffs, Norman "Sammy" Thomas and wife Lynda Jo of Silver City, IA, and Rebecca Yeager and husband Jeffrey of Blair, NE; sister Sharon Kay Goodlette and husband Gene of Rockford, IL; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
