Barbara Wendland

Barbara Rose Wendland, 83 of Council Bluffs, IA, departed this world on Friday, October 31, 2025.

Barbara was one of three children of Rosemary Margaret (Epperson) and William Donald Hewitt, Sr., was born on June 1, 1942, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She grew up and attended Rue School and Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs. Following school, Barbara worked at Mutual of Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska and did a variety of other part-time jobs along the way.

Barbara and Darrell Wilber Wendland were married on May 4, 1968, in Council Bluffs where they made their home. Their marriage was blessed with two children, William Darrell and Wendi Rose.

Barb enjoyed being a wife, mother, and homemaker through the years. Sweeping leaves outside, planting flowers, beautifying the yard, and watching her favorite bird the wren gave her joy.

She attended Bible studies and liked being with other believers. She prayed for many people wishing they would be safe. She also wanted others to read and believe Romans chapters 1-5 in the King James Bible.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father William Hewitt, Sr. in 2001 and her mother Rosemary Hewitt in 2004.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 57 years, Darrell Wendland of Council Bluffs; children, William Wendland and wife Melissa of Council Bluffs and Wendi McCoy and husband Robert of Flint, MI; four granddaughters, Ashley Wendland, Samantha Wendland, Madison Wendland and Emma Wendland; other relatives and friends.

She will be missed.
