Betty Ann Retz

Betty Ann Retz, one of three children of Dorothy Lavonne (Knight) Lane and Harold Joseph Lane, was born on December 7, 1941 in Atlantic, Iowa. Betty Ann grew up in Atlantic where she attended school and later worked in the meat department at Swanson Foods.

Betty Ann and Richard Michael Retz were married at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic on April 17, 1967. They were blessed with four children, James Matthew, Steven Patrick, Jill Christine, and Thomas Michael. The family eventually settled in Glenwood, Iowa where Richard worked for the United States Post Office. The family became members of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Glenwood. Betty Ann's enjoyments included crafts and spending time with her family.

Betty Ann and Richard had been married 42 years, when Betty Ann died at their Glenwood home on February 15, 2010. She had attained the age of 68 years, 2 months, and 8 days. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Larry Lane.

Betty Ann is survived by her husband Richard Retz of Glenwood; children, James Retz and wife Tonya of Cedar Rapids, IA, Steve Retz of Papillion, NE, Jill Severn and husband Dodd of Glenwood, and Thomas Retz and wife Natasha of Des Moines, IA; sister Sharon Pross and husband Dick of Atlantic; and sister-in-law Carmen Lane-Reagles and husband Keith of Marne, IA; an aunt, Evelyn Knop, of Atlantic, and an uncle, Glen Knight and wife Janet, of Coon Rapids, IA; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
