Catherine Campbell

–

Glenwood, Iowa

Laura Catherine Campbell, one of six children of Edward Franklin Rubenking and Clara Mildred (Rhino) Rubenking, was born at Malvern, Iowa on May 18, 1922. Catherine graduated from Malvern High School and was recognized for her strong work ethic. Catherine and Ora Louis Campbell were married and blessed with children Marlene Lavonna and Larry Lee.
Catherine's reputation as a good cook took her to the restaurant business in Malvern. Perhaps she is best known for the years of service to the Malvern Cemetery Association where Catherine and Ora served as sextons. Catherine always did more than her share of grave opening and closing, edging around grave markers, and trimming the hedge which usually caused a case of poison ivy.
Catherine and Ora were loving grandparents who could be counted on to care for family members who might need extra attention. During Marlene's lengthy illness, Catherine's help with Marlene and her children was essential to their well being.
After Ora's death on February 3, 1975, Catherine continued to live in their home which was always well maintained and boasted Malvern's first color television set.
Following a lengthy illness, Catherine died at her home in Malvern on December 6, 2006 at the age of 84 years, 6 months, and 18 days.
In addition to her husband Ora, Catherine was preceded in death by her children, Marlene Gordon and Larry Campbell; sisters Vera Parkhurst and Pauline Wheeler; and half brother Cecil Reeder. She is survived by brothers Carl Rubenking and wife Sharon and Charles Rubenking and wife Joann all of Anderson, Indiana; 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
