Chantel Adair Goines, one of two children of Colleen Adair Goines and Gilbert S. "Gib" Hall, was born on January 28, 1983 in Red Oak, Iowa. Fondly nicknamed "Chanie", Chantel and her older brother, Shaun Joseph Goines, grew up in Hastings, Iowa, where she attended Sunday School at the Hastings United Methodist Church.
Chantel attended elementary, junior high and high school at Nishna Valley, graduating in 2001. While in high school, Chantel enjoyed playing volleyball and having fun with her friends. Following school, she began her working career and waitressed at area restaurants for a number of years.
When Chantel was younger, she enjoyed camping with her grandpa and grandma. Grandpa Hall fondly nicknamed her, "goonksey bird". At any given time of a day, she often would hear "Chantilly Lace" sang to her by her dad. Chantel had the "gift of gab" and no one could just receive a simple "yes or no" from her. Sometimes it would take an hour or so just to get an answer. She loved listening to music, watching movies and movie trivia. Her concern for others is reflected in her willingness to donate her beautiful hair to a friend being treated for cancer.
Chantel and her fiancA(c), Jason Matthew Conn, made their home in Red Oak and on July 11, 2006, they were blessed with the birth of a beautiful son, Ashton Air Conn. Her greatest joy was to be with Jason and watch Ashton experience all the wonders of a young toddler. Chantel's memory will live on through Ashton, in his dark brown eyes and curly hair, his infectious smile and good natured personality.
Chantel died unexpectedly on June 5, 2008, at her home in Red Oak, having attained the age of 25 years, 4 months and 8 days. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Gilbert and Lavina Hall; grandfather Keith Edie; and niece Rosie Clarke.
Chantel is survived by her fiancA(c) Jason Conn and their son Ashton of Red Oak, IA; Jason's son Avery Conn of Kansas; parents, Colleen Goines and her companion Ray Buick of Clarinda, IA and Gilbert "Gib" Hall and his companion Julie VanHouten of Emerson, IA; her brother Shaun Goines and his companion Elizabeth Horn and her son Landon Horn, all of Clarinda; grandmother Kathleen Edie of Seattle, WA; special Aunt Kathy Goines and her daughter Mercedes Goines of Villisca, IA; Jason's parents, Dale and Diane Conn of Mt. Ayr, IA; Jason's sister, Angie Clarke and husband Kevin and their son Justin of Omaha, NE; other relatives and many friends.
