Cole Allen Vanatta, a life-long farmer near Thurman, Iowa was called to rest on September 11, 2021 at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Cole, 36 years old, leaves behind his loving wife Shannon and three beautiful children; Elliey (14), Josiey (8), and Royce (4). His family was his entire world and everything he did in life was for them. He leaves behind his best friends Tom Vanatta (father) and Wayne Vanatta (grandfather) who he was farming with and working with every day.
Cole was born on June 11, 1985 to Thomas and Tracy (Blackburn) Vanatta and was a generational farmer; family farming was his life's work. He was always the hardest working man in the field but never too busy to lend a hand, to stop to talk, or to help others. From a young age, Cole was a part of the family farming operation. He had a talent for mechanics and for working on machinery. He was strong and able bodied; often able to take on tasks that others could not accomplish. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter of both Whitetail deer and ducks and also enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, and side-by-sides. Any time spent outdoors, no matter the season, he enjoyed. He loved to take old things and make them new and spent time creating and working on projects; he was very talented and a skilled craftsman.
Cole was a protective brother to his older sister Katie (Vanatta) Morse and younger sister Paige (Vanatta) Kates; he was their rock and always there for them in a moment's notice. He was a loving brother in law, and a great uncle to his nieces and nephews, and an amazing friend to many; he was a kind and gentle man who cared about others.
Cole is survived by his wife, Shannon, and children Elliey, Josiey and Royce, parents Tom and Tracy Vanatta, sisters Katie and husband Daniel Morse, their children Chloe, Landon and Colin, sister Paige and husband Ryan Kates, their children Trinity, Elynor (Nora), and Tillie, paternal grandfather Wayne Vanatta, maternal grandparents Bruce and Janet Blackburn, mother and father in law Randy and Lynn Graham, sister in law Lisa and husband Justin Good, their children Kristen, Stefani, and Cienna, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends.
