Darrel Dean Hankins

Darrel Hankins, 78, of Tabor, IA, passed away April 2, 2015 at the Tabor Manor Care Center. Per Darrel's wishes, cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be at the Tabor Cemetery. Loess Hills Funeral Home of Glenwood, IA assisted the Hankins family with arrangements.

Darrel Dean Hankins, one of seven children of Margaret Marie (Kephart) and Walter Dale Hankins, was born on April 4, 1936 on a farm near Tabor, Iowa. He grew up in the Tabor area and attended rural school through the 8th grade. Darrel worked as an agricultural laborer until his retirement in 1971.

Darrel and Elmeda Kay Houser were married on May 10, 1961 at the Justice of the Peace in Tabor. He and Kay were married almost 41 years when Kay died on April 12, 2002.

Darrel continued to make his home in Tabor where he was a member of the Christian Church. Darrel had a great interest in riding motorcycles and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Darrel passed away on April 2, 2015 at the Tabor Manor Care Center at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 28 days. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents; and brother Donnie Hankins.

Darrel is survived by his siblings, Larry Hankins and wife Ellen of Lake Placid, Florida, Terry Hankins and wife Ronda of Tabor, Rena North and husband Jay of Peoria, Arizona, Tammy Crawford of Springfield, Missouri, and Debbie Bachman and husband Jim of Tabor; sister-in-law Violet Hankins of Shenandoah, Iowa; and by several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
