OBITUARY
Darrell Lewis, 82, of Roach, Missouri, formerly of Hastings, Iowa, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Darrell was born on March 7, 1944, a son of Hamilton and Mary Louise (King) Lewis and lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and love for his family. On July 19, 1964, he married the love of his life, Beverly Viner, in Henderson, Iowa. Together they shared a loving marriage filled with faith, laughter, and countless memories over the years.

Darrell began farming in 1962 and devoted much of his life to the work he truly loved. He raised cattle and hogs and was a dedicated row crop farmer for many years. Farming was more than a livelihood to Darrell — it was a way of life that reflected his strong work ethic and pride in caring for the land, animals and his family.

In 2015, Darrell and Bev made Lake of the Ozarks their full-time home, where they enjoyed spending time together, and making new friends wherever they went-and we all know Darrell never met a stranger. They loved to travel all over the world from Germany, to visiting family in Sweden, trips with friends, and crop tours which built a life full of great memories. Darrell especially loved doing crafts with Bev, and the two shared many happy hours creating projects together. He also took great pride in remodeling their home and was always working on improvements and new ideas.

Darrell was known for keeping everything neat and spotless. He enjoyed washing and caring for his vehicles and farm equipment, making sure everything was always clean and well maintained. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, antique shopping, fishing and any social Big Island or church activities. He is notorious for being the “go to guy” for handyman projects or independent varmint control needs. Darrell trapped varmints -skunks and armadillos- stories that often-brought smiles and laughter to family and friends.

Darrell was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Emerson. Member and Elder of the Community Christian Church in Camdenton. Darrell and Bev square danced with the Henderson Grand Squares for 26 years. He was a 4-H leader and 4-H Teen Club Sponsor with Bev where they were chaperones for the Mills County Teen Club Washington D.C. trips. In early farming years, Darrell and Bev were active in the Farm Bureau as members of the Young Member Committee.

Several awards that Darrell received over the years through his outstanding farming practices including an Outstanding Farmer of the Year in 1972 with the Glenwood Jaycees along with them being the Farm Family of the Week. He also received a farming award with Brad in 2013 with National Corn Growers Association, Pioneer, and Du Pont for an Outstanding Yield of 240 bushels per acre of corn.

Darrell will be dearly missed by the love of his life, Bev, his children, Denise and Brad and their families, their Big Island Family, the Community Christian Church family, and all the strangers who became friends along the way.

Above all, Darrell will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted family man, hardworking farmer, and loyal friend. His kindness, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 61 years Beverly Lewis; his children, Denise Miller and husband Dan, and Brad Lewis and wife Kattie; his grandchildren, Jackson Miller and wife Nicole, Parker Lewis and wife Lisha, Andrea Miller, and Grant Lewis and wife Justice; his three great-grandchildren, Levi Lewis, Beverly Miller, and LeRoy Miller; his sister Norma Bolton and husband Bernie; his sisters-in-law, Mary Kay Lewis, Ann Oliver, Deb Lewis, and Sandy Viner; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Darrell is preceded in death by his parents Hamilton and Louise Lewis; his siblings, Marlin Lewis and Randy Lewis, and his brothers-in-law, Jim Oliver and Gordon Viner.
