David Neil Lang

Dave Lang, 76, of Malvern, IA, passed away on August 29, 2016 at his home in Malvern. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern. There is no scheduled visitation.

David Neil Lang, one of three children of Marjorie Lucille (Adams) and George Gray Lang, was born on October 29, 1939 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He grew up and attended schools in Ottumwa, graduating from Ottumwa High School in 1957. Following high school, Dave worked for the Ottumwa Courier newspaper from 1957 to 1959.

Dave joined the United States Air Force in 1959 as an air force weather observer and forecaster until 1981. He attended Bellevue College in 1982 and in 1984 and obtained a B.A. in business administration and a B.A. in psychology. From 1981 to 1983, Dave worked at First Data in Omaha, Nebraska, as a resources network controller and in 1983; he was employed by the Department of Defense at Offutt in Bellevue, Nebraska, as a weather forecaster, until his retirement in 2002.

Dave and Sharon Lou Hendren were married on October 6, 1959 at the Davis Street Christian Church in Ottumwa, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Tina, Dixie, and David. They have traveled all over the world and United States, living in many places; North Dakota, Massachusetts, Iowa, Missouri, and twice in the states of Illinois, South Dakota, Nebraska, twice overseas in England, before establishing their home in Malvern, Iowa.

Dave was a member of the Calvary Christian Church in Bellevue, NE. He also was a member of the AF & AM Masons, Shriners of North America, the American Legion, and was a lifetime member of the PGA Partners Association. Dave enjoyed traveling, playing golf, bowling, and using the computer. He was an avid solver of crossword puzzles and was a wonderful and loving husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, and a good friend to all who knew and loved him.

Dave passed away at his Malvern home on August 29, 2016 at the age of 76 years and 10 months. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Tom Lang; brothers-in-law, Louie Hendren, Vern Hendren, Joe Nicholson, and Tom Bloodsworth; and sisters-in-law, Fern Williams and Dixie Pherigo.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sharon Lang of Malvern; children, Tina Stulen and husband Bob of Aylett, VA, Dixie Derr and husband Chris of Bellevue, David Lang and wife Kim of Victoria, TX; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister Julie Vandevoort and husband George of Ellijay, GA; brother-in-law, Tim Pherigo of Des Moines, IA; sisters-in-law, Joyce Lang of Hyannis, MA; Phyllis Hendren of Ottumwa, IA, Dena Bloodsworth of Boone, IA Roberta Lies of Bellevue, Lucille Marlow and husband Bill of Redfield, IA, and Sue Wetherall and husband Gary of Venice, FL; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
