Delsie Faye Brown, one of thirteen children of Edward Newton and Ada Finetta (Fox) Brown, was born September 7, 1927 at Coin, MO. She grew up on a farm near Gaynor, MO and attended country schools in the area. Later Delsie moved to the Faye and Harold Smith Home near Emerson, IA where she helped Faye with the housework. This is where Delsie met her future husband, Edward Gene Sands, who was also working on the Smith farm.
Delsie and Edward were united in marriage on August 13, 1949, at the Christian Church in Red Oak, IA. Ed and Delsie began building their family in Red Oak where Ed worked at the Kozy-Air Furnace Factory. In 1955 they moved to a farm near Sheridan, MO, and later to Hopkins, MO; Oakland, IA; and Hastings, IA where Ed farmed and Delsie was a homemaker. In 1968, Ed and Delsie moved their family to their home in Malvern, IA.
Delsie served as a Cub Scout leader for five years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Malvern where she taught Sunday School for twelve years. Delsie was a charter member of the Bible Baptist Church in Glenwood, IA, where she also served as a Sunday School teacher. In her later years Delsie volunteered much of her time working at the Storehouse in Glenwood. One of Delsie's greatest gifts was sharing her faith and helping others. Delsie enjoyed taking care of her family and her many nieces and nephews. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was one of Delsie's greatest joys.
Delsie and Ed were married 54 years when he went to be with the Lord on December 5, 2003 at the age of 81. Delsie continued to live in their home in Malvern until 2010 at which time she made her home in Glenwood.
In addition to her beloved husband Ed, and daughter Alice, Delsie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Virgil, Robert Oren (Brownie), Ira, Clifford, Homer, and Kenneth Brown; and her sisters, Carrie Fuller, Stella Williams, and Wilma Spaulding.
