Donna L. Smith

Donna LaVonne Smith, one of three children of Nina Marguerite (Besore) Smith and Berton Marion Smith, was born on a farm near Carson, Iowa, on March 20, 1926. Donna grew up on the family farm and attended country school until high school. She graduated at the age of 17 from Carson High School in 1943. She went on to attend the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa where she took classes in nursing.

Donna was a member of the Macedonia United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star in Carson. She was very active with 4-H. Donna worked at the Farm Bureau office in Council Bluffs, Iowa, from 1943-1944.

In 1989, Donna moved to the Colonial Manor in Avoca, Iowa where she enjoyed all the activities held there at the nursing home. She loved to go out for lunch and shopping with her sister Kathy, attending family dinners at her brother Blane's home, and visiting with relatives at family reunions.

Donna passed away at Avoca Nursing & Rehab on February 15, 2012, at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother Berton Blane Smith.

Donna is survived by her sister Katheryn Kay Batman and husband Nile of Milford, IA; sister-in-law Betty Smith of Carson; nieces, Becky Smith of Council Bluffs, and Julie Batman and Dante Duphorne of Lake Mary, FL; nephews, Monte Smith of Pacific Junction, IA, Tony Smith and wife Vicki of Council Bluffs, Andy Smith and wife Andrea of Carson, and Jay Batman and wife Kari of Milford; great niece Cassie Smith of Iowa City, IA; great nephews, Tyler Smith of Carson, Zach Ratashack of Pearl Harbor, HI, Daniel Smith of Omaha, NE, and Jack Batman, Joe Batman, and Gabe Batman, all of Milford; other relatives and friends.

A memorial fund has been established.
