Doris D. Schlundt

Doris D. Schlundt, age 83, of Council Bluffs, Iowa and formerly known as Doris (Mikesell) Bergen, of Carson, Iowa, died Friday, August 8, 2008 at Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Doris Darlene Bergen Schlundt, one of four children of Raymond Mikesell and Lottie Mae (Morris) Mikesell, was born in Carson, Iowa on February 20, 1925. Doris grew up in Carson and graduated from the Carson High School in 1943.

Doris and Walter Leroy Bergen were married in Oakland, Iowa in December of 1943. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Gary Lee. While in Oakland, Doris worked in the school office.

In 1955, the family moved to California, where Doris could be closer to her sister. They returned to Iowa in 1963 and lived in Council Bluffs. Doris began work doing data entry for the Northern Natural Gas Pipeline in Omaha, Nebraska.

In April of 1974, Doris and Ernest Henry Schlundt were married in Council Bluffs, where they made their home. Doris worked her way up the ranks at Northern Natural Gas and was a supervisor when she retired in 1986 after 24 years with the company.

Doris enjoyed painting, sewing, cooking, and reading. Doris and Ernest had been married 34 years when she passed away at Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs on August 8, 2008. She had attained the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 19 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lodemia Fender and Norma Wilmot; and brother Eldon Mikesell.

Doris is survived by her husband Ernest Schlundt of Council Bluffs; son Gary Bergen of Council Bluffs; step daughter, Amy Skinner and husband Gale of SantA(c), CA; six grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Burial will be in the Carson Cemetery.
