Doris Darlene (Hatfield) Schroeder, the youngest of eight children of James Alfred Hatfield and Nellie Rose Helen (Shere) Hatfield, was born on November 4, 1926 at White Lake, South Dakota. Her father died when she was 7 months old, and the family moved to Malvern, Iowa shortly after, to live near her mother's family.
Doris attended school at Malvern, graduating from Malvern High School in 1944. She started working in the office of what was then Jerpe's, while still in school, and continued working there until late in 1945. She and her mother moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to live with her brother and family. Doris worked in the office at Douglas Aircraft, before moving to Santa Ana, California, where her sister lived and worked at the air force base. She moved back to Malvern in 1946.
Doris and Donald Merrell Schroeder were married on August 29, 1946 in Hiawatha, Kansas. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Dennis Merrell and a daughter, Linda Kay. They farmed for a short time near Malvern, before moving into town.
Doris was a member of the Malvern United Methodist Church. Doris and Donald enjoyed camping as a family, starting back in 1959. They enjoyed family vacations at their summer home in the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, with their children and their families. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her children, her six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Doris and Donald were married 64 years, when Doris passed away on December 10, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She attained the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 6 days.
