Dorothy May Trimmer

–

Glenwood, Iowa

Dorothy Trimmer, age 86 of Malvern, IA, passed away at the Manor of Malvern nursing home on Sunday, April 12, 2009.

Dorothy May Trimmer, one of three children of Ivy Myrtle (Klepper) and William H. Trimmer, was born on September 19, 1922 on a farm near Hastings, Iowa. Her family lived on several farms in the Malvern and Hastings, Iowa area. They enjoyed living just south of Hastings on a farm, eventually owned by Richard Goy, because the well water was so soft and they were able to walk to town and to school in Hastings. Dorothy's brother, Melvin, was born on her third birthday, so they celebrated many birthdays together.

Dorothy was a member of the Hastings United Methodist Church. She attended the Hastings School, was the president of her sophomore class and voted "most friendly" student. She graduated from the Hastings High School in 1942.

Dorothy was a homemaker who helped clean houses and baby sat for local families. She helped her sister Mary and her husband Clarence with fall harvest each year.

Dorothy moved to the Malvern Village in 1989 and was a member of the Malvern 39ers Club. Dorothy enjoyed riding the Southwest Iowa Transit bus to Red Oak, Iowa, for her errands. She kept the Village's bird feeders full and enjoyed tending to her flowers and small garden just outside her backdoor. She enjoyed her friendship with the Rod Goy family and looked forward to visits from her niece, Jeannie Pontow, and her nephew, Curtis Trimmer and his family. When needed, she enjoyed taking care of the Trimmer's family dog "Wrinkles".

Dorothy entered the Manor of Malvern nursing home on October 10, 2008. She passed away at the Manor on April 12, 2009, attaining the age of 86 years, 6 months, and 23 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Melvin Trimmer; and sister Mary Nelson and husband Clarence; and nephew Tom Nelson.

Dorothy is survived by her sister-in-law, Ruth Trimmer of Golden, CO: nieces and nephews, Jeannie Pontow and husband Jerry of Hastings, Donnie Trimmer and wife Janet of Golden, CO, Curtis Trimmer and wife Kathy of Malvern, Alan Trimmer and wife Angie of Green Mountain, CO, Willie Trimmer and wife Susan of Arvada, CO, Wendy Baker and husband D'Arcy of Denver, CO; eleven great nieces and nephews; aunt Violet Brechbill and husband Bob of Independence, KS; and many friends.
