Douglas G. Von Weihe was born on May 5, 1952, in Council Bluffs, IA to Elmer H. and Dorothy (Guttau) Von Weihe.
Doug grew up on the family farm east of Carson, IA. Following graduation from Carson-Macedonia High School in 1970, he attended Iowa State University until 1972 when he returned to farm with his Dad and brother Marlyn on the family farm. Doug married Rebecca Ann Christensen on November 23, 1979 in Coon Rapids, IA. The couple was blessed with two sons, Michael and Kerry. Doug continued farming until his retirement. For a time, he and Becky owned a vineyard and were co-owners of a local winery.
Doug’s passions in life, other than caring for his family, were fishing and farming. He was his happiest when sitting in his boat, in his bib overalls, with a rod in his hands. Every fall for nearly 60 years Doug and his brother Marlyn and friends took a fishing trip to either South Dakota or Minnesota. Doug will be remembered for his unique brand of humor that brought joy and laughter wherever he went; he was a good storyteller and loved hanging out with his friends at the local Co-op and Carson Country Store. His special personality will be missed by so many.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents.
Doug is survived by his wife Becky of 44 years; his sons, Michael of Omaha, NE, and Kerry and his wife Tanya of Story City, IA; brother Marlyn and his wife Darlene of Carson; nephews, Daniel and husband Atinch of Brooklyn, NY, and Mark and his wife Kim of Raleigh; NC; other relatives; and a host of many special friends.
