Edith Ann Schnoor, one of four children of Wilma Celeste (Fredrickson) and Harold Leroy Blackman, was born on December 3, 1939 on the family farm near Malvern, Iowa. She grew up in the Malvern area and graduated from Tabor High School in Tabor, Iowa in 1959. Following school, Edith worked at a cleaners, helped care for her mother, and helped raise her little sister Bev.
Edith and Henry Christian Schnoor, Jr. were married on June 6, 1964 at the United Methodist Church in Malvern. They made their home on the Schnoor family farm northwest of Hastings, Iowa and their marriage was blessed with two children, Denell Ann and Darren Christian.
Edith was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She helped Henry on the farm, and cleaned homes for several years. When Henry was unable to care for the farm, Edith took full control of their farming operations. She was a member of the Malvern United Methodist Church, the Malvern UMC Women's group, and had taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Edith served as 4-H leader of the Peppy Pals 4-H Club and helped judge at the Mills County Fair. She was also a member of the Mills County Pork Producers, and found time to volunteer as a room parent while her children attended Chantry Elementary School. Edith and Henry attended and supported all their children's church, school, sports, and 4-H activities.
Edith enjoyed Bible Study, reading, and working puzzle books. She took pride in her huge garden, was an outstanding cook, and decorated many beautiful cakes for her family and friends. Edith loved to sew, always had sewing projects to work on, and made many of her children's clothing. She also enjoyed quilting, knitting, and painting ceramics. Edith always put her family first and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
