Glenwood, Iowa
Edith "Edie" Ellinor Selders, youngest of six children of Jens and Marie Winther, was born in Audubon, Iowa on July 24, 1924. She is survived by brothers Ben and Ray. Her brother Lawrence was killed in action during WWII and her sisters Harriett and Gudrun have also passed away. Edith and her siblings were the first generation to be American born, as both of her parents came here as immigrants from Denmark to farm in the Audubon area. Many of Edie's relatives still live and farm there.
Edith was a housewife, proud of her children Randy and Linda, and a devout Christian. She was a consummate baker--Randy and Linda fondly remember the hot, fresh bread she had ready for them every day after school.
Paul and Edith were married for nearly sixty years and had a few opportunities to travel, to Paul's ancestral home in Pennsylvania, to Florida, and to visit daughter Linda and granddaughter Simone in California when Simone was a year old.
Edith died on January 13, 2007 at their home in Macedonia at the age of 82 years. Paul died four days later on January 17, 2007 at the Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA at the age of 87 years.
Edith is survived by children Randy of Macedonia, Iowa and Linda of Antelope, California. Grandchildren are Simone of Antelope, CA, who is a freshman at Stanford University, Jason of Council Bluffs who has three children, Erin of Omaha who has two children, Michael of Council Bluffs who has one child, and Philip. Twelve year old Grandson Jordan passed away in 1996.
