Edward Emil Priebe, one of four children of Elsie Adelia (Quast) and Otto August Priebe, was born on June 21, 1932 in Valley City, North Dakota. He grew up in the Valley City area, graduated from high school, and was employed by the Diamond Furniture Company in Valley City from November 1947 to July 1952. Ed began his 21-year career in the United States Air Force, when he enlisted on July 18, 1952 and retired on June 1, 1973, with the rank of Technical Sergeant. Ed was stationed throughout the United States in Texas, Washington, Alaska, North Dakota, Arizona, and California. He also served overseas in Korea, Thailand, Guam, and Vietnam. At the time of his retirement, Ed was an administrative supervisor for the Deputy Chief of Staff, Headquarters, 15th Air Force at March Air Force Base, Riverside, California. Following his service, Ed was employed as a branch manager for Wells Fargo Armored Service Corporation in Pocatello, Idaho until declining health forced his retirement in the fall of 1980.
Ed and Dorothy Cornelia Harris were married on November 4, 1960 at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Chapel in Tucson, Arizona. Their marriage was blessed with daughters, Donna Marie and Juanita. The couple later divorced in 1993.
In 2003, Ed moved to live with his daughter Donna and her family in Glenwood, Iowa. He enjoyed woodworking and painting; especially painting by numbers. Ed found much enjoyment in watching classic western movies and reading Louis L'Amour books. Above all, Ed especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Ed passed away on February 11, 2012 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 21 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elsa and Otto Priebe; and brothers, Alfred Priebe and Carl Priebe.
Ed is survived by his daughters, Donna Richardson and husband Charles of Glenwood, and Juanita Lindsay and husband Irvin of Ogema, MN; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister Florence Radtke of Marion, KS; and other relatives and friends.
