Eilene Scott

–

Glenwood, Iowa

Myrtle Eilene Scott, one of four children of Lyda May (Zirkle) and Ralph Edwin Taylor, was born in Clarinda, Iowa on September 29, 1922. When Eilene was two years old, the family moved to Red Oak, Iowa. Eilene graduated from Red Oak High School in 1940 and began working as a receptionist in the office of Dr. Gladys Cooper in Red Oak. Eilene was introduced to Lawrence Houck "Bud" Scott by her sister shortly before Bud enlisted in the United States Army. Bud and Eilene kept in contact with each other through letters while he was stationed in Iceland during World War II. Following the war, Eilene and Bud were married in Belleville, Kansas on December 28, 1945. They made their home in Red Oak and later moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa where Bud worked for the Burlington Railroad. Bud was transferred to Glenwood, Iowa in the fall of 1959.

Their marriage was blessed with four children, Steven, Nancy, Marcia, and Marilyn. Eilene was a busy homemaker, community volunteer and faithful employee. She accepted Christ into her life in 1977 and was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in Glenwood. Her favorite pastimes included sewing and crocheting, baking, shopping, nature, and attending Christian Lay Witness Missions with Bud. Her greatest pleasure came from time spent with her family. Her volunteer service to her community was recognized when Eilene was named "Volunteer of the Year" by Glen Haven Home of Glenwood in 1990. Her hobbies lead to her employment as a cook for the Glenwood Community Schools and work as a seamstress at Hillside Manor in Glenwood.

Eilene and Bud had been married for 52 years when Bud died on September 1, 1998. Eilene continued to live in their Glenwood home until she moved to Grant City, Missouri where she could be near her family. She eventually moved to Orilla's Way Residential Care Facility and later to the Worth County Convalescent Center in Grant City.

Eilene passed away on February 5, 2010 in Grant City at the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 6 days.
