Elsie (Buffington) Springer

Elsie Irene Springer, one of eight children of Marion A. and Ethel (Genung) Buffington, was born at Glenwood, Iowa on July 13, 1911. Elsie grew up in Glenwood and graduated from Glenwood High School. Following school, Elsie worked in the Glenwood Telephone Office and taught country school in the Glenwood area.
Elsie and Harry Alfred Springer of Council Bluffs, Iowa were married on May 10, 1933 at Maryville, Missouri. They made their home in Henderson, Iowa where Harry farmed. They were blessed with a daughter, Patricia. In 1956, the family moved to Council Bluffs where Harry accepted a custodial position with the Council Bluffs School District. Elise also worked for many years in the district as a secretary to the high school guidance counselor. In 1976, following Harry's retirement, he and Elsie moved to Visalia, California where they made their retirement home near their daughter Patricia and her family. Harry and Elsie had been married 62 years when Harry died on September 10, 1995. Elsie continued to live at her home in Visalia. Elsie died on July 29, 2003 at the age of 92 years and 16 days.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister Leona Buffington; husband Harry Springer; daughter Patricia Clark; brother Eugene Buffington; sisters Gayle Evans, Elizabeth Miller, Marjorie Skaggs, and Wilma Bangston.
Elsie is survived by her grandchildren, Janice VanTichelt of Visalia, California, Tim Clark of Exeter, California, and Jason Clark of Visalia; seven great grandchildren; sister Leota Eastman of Arizona; sisters-in-law Bea Buffington of Silver City, Iowa and Bernice Copeland and husband Charles of Osage Beach, Missouri; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
