Esther Davis

Esther Caroline Davis, one of six children of Carrie F. (Wurtele) and John Bohlen was born on her parent's farm near Nebraska City, Nebraska on February 23, 1919. Esther attended country school near Nebraska City until the fifth grade when the family moved to Percival, Iowa. She continued attending country school near Percival through the eighth grade. Following school, Esther lived on her parent's farm and did house work for other area families.
Esther and Kenneth William Davis were married in Sidney, Iowa on September 12, 1939. They made their first home in Percival and were blessed with their first son Gary. The family later moved to a farm near Randolph, Iowa and grew larger with the birth of sons Roger and Dennis. Esther enjoyed her role as a mother and farmer's wife. She liked to design rooms and homes, and drew the plans for the family's house in Randolph. She was a member of the Friendly Neighbors Club, the Strahan United Methodist Church, and responsible for naming the Strahan community news letter - The Strahan-O-Gram. Esther was a hard worker and good mother, who lived a hard life.
Esther and Ken had been married 59 years, when Ken died on December 23, 1998. Esther continued to live in her home after Ken's death. Esther died at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA on November 23, 2004, at the age of 85 years and 9 months. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ernest Bohlen, Arnold Bohlen, and Oscar Bohlen, and infant granddaughter Tracy Davis. Esther is survived by her sons Gary Davis and his wife Barbara of Oak Grove, MO, Roger Davis and his wife Connie of Shenandoah, IA, and Dennis Davis and his wife Anne of Randolph, IA; sisters Elsie Moyer of Percival, IA, and Gladys Davis and her husband Roy of Imogene, IA; 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
