Florence Fern Mccoy

Florence Fern McCoy, one of two children of Valentine Walker and Bernice Ella (Avery) Fisk, was born at Curlew, Iowa on October 25, 1913. Florence and her family moved when she was young to Des Moines, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska where Florence graduated from Tech High School in Omaha in 1932. Florence and William Elwood McCoy were married on May 25, 1940 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter Peggy. They made their home in Council Bluffs, Iowa until they moved to Glenwood, Iowa in 1965. Florence and William had been married 42 years when William died September 10, 1982. Florence enjoyed being a homemaker, camping, sewing and crafts and spending time with her family. In December of 2000, Florence's health forced her to move to the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Florence died at Glen Haven on April 2, 2005 at the age of 91 years, five months, and seven days.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband William; brother Avery Fisk; and brother in law Herman McCoy. She is survived by her daughter Peggy Swanson and husband Stukely of Glenwood, IA; grandchildren Darlene Jenkins and husband Greg of Odenville, AL and Wayne Swanson and wife Carol of Tabor, IA; four great grandchildren; sister-in-law Evelyn McCoy of Glenwood, IA; niece and nephews.

A private graveside funeral service with Florence's family was held at the Glenwood Cemetery on April 6, 2005.
