Florilla Jens

Florilla June (Hunt) Jens, the youngest of six children of Florilla Lucille (Sandell) and Claude Dennie Hunt, was born on June 7, 1929 near Glenwood, Iowa. She spent her life in the Glenwood community and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1947. Following graduation, she worked at Aistrope Insurance in Glenwood.

Flo enjoyed dancing and was swept off her feet by William "Bill" Jens. Bill and Flo were married on November 21, 1948 at the First Baptist Church in Glenwood. They made their home on the Jens farm, 5 miles northeast of Glenwood. Bill and Flo were blessed with five children, Michael William, twins, Jeffery Lynn and Patrick Lee (who each died at birth), Kathryn Diane, and Ronald Bruce.

Flo enjoyed keeping a garden on the farm and was always known for her talents in the kitchen. Like many great chefs, her ability to whip up a dish came more from experience and taste than it did from any written recipe (as any family member who has tried to imitate her famous "red cake" can attest). Bill and Flo enjoyed winters in Apache Junction for more than 20 years during their retirement. Flo loved being active with her many "snowbird" friends in the warm sunny weather. She was a lifelong member of United Church of Christ, and a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 141. Flo especially loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Flo entered into eternal rest, surrounded by her loving family, on January 11, 2012 at her home in Glenwood. She attained the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 4 days and was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Florilla; infant sons, Jeffrey and Patrick, and brothers, Noah "Snowy", Claude Jr. "Clitz", Charles, Floyd, and LaVern Hunt.

Flo is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Bill Jens of Glenwood; children, Mike Jens and wife Judie of Omaha, NE, Diane Malcom and husband Dale, and Ron Jens and wife Lori, all of Glenwood; grandchildren, Jeff Jens, Dan Jens and wife Sara, Michaelene Fisher and husband Dan, Kathy Sievers and husband Colt, Dennis Malcom and wife Catie, Mandy Klein and husband Chad, Matt Jens and wife Kelli, and Sarah Jacobus and husband Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Jeffrey, Kirkland, and Carson Jens, Ethan and Ashley Fisher, Ethan Malcom, Colton Sievers, Cody, Caden and Camryn Klein, Blake Jens, with two great-grandbabies on the way; step grandchildren, Trish, Cam and Cory Bolander, and Kellie Hatcher; sisters-in-laws, Betty Hunt, and Genny Hunt, both of Glenwood, and Helen Hunt of Bellevue, NE; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

Memorials suggested to Hospice with Heart or First Congregational United Church of Christ.
