OBITUARY
Frederick Edward Mulholland of Elkhorn, Nebraska, formerly of Malvern, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Ed was born on May 10, 1939 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Laura Pauline (Hopp) and Frederick Aistrope Mulholland. He grew up in Malvern where he graduated from high school in 1957. He attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa and then moved to Omaha where he worked for the Center Bank. Ed later continued his education and graduated from Bellevue University in May 1993.
In 1961, Ed started work at the Malvern Trust and Savings Bank, working for three generations of the Burdic family: Eugene, Allan, and Jay. It is believed that his bank account might be the longest standing bank account at the bank today. He enjoyed his coworkers and customers for over 4 decades. After hanging up his tie at the end of the day, Ed enjoyed being at the farm, especially mowing.
Ed and Jacqueline Jacobsen were married on June 30, 1963 in Exira, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Ed, Andrew and Jennifer.
Ed gave of his time and love willingly, happily and unselfishly throughout the years holding offices and positions on various boards and organizations throughout the community: Vine Street Bible Church in Glenwood, Malvern Park Board, which opened the Malvern pool in the early1970’s, Malvern Cemetery Board for over 20 years, MABA, Fairview golf course, served as clerk while in the Army National Guard, and was a member of the Malvern Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years.
He was an avid supporter of school activities, cheering on the Malvern Orioles which later became the Panthers, and the East Mills Wolverines. One would often see him cheering at games and enjoying popcorn until Ed and Jacque moved to Elkhorn, Nebraska. Ed was a devoted runner, beating the pavement daily, in all kinds of weather. Training for marathons, half marathons and 5K races was a hobby for “Fast Eddie.”
Ed was very blessed with his family who kept him smiling and busy with their activities and family events. Often referred to as Gpa, Ed was a faithful Christian and was thankful for God’s everlasting love, His abundant blessings, and His promise of eternal life. Ed loved every minute of being a husband, a devoted dad, grandpa and great-Gpa.
Ed passed away just one week after he and Jacque celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Ed will be greatly missed by his family: wife Jacqueline; sons, Ed Mulholland, and Andrew Mulholland and his wife Jennifer; daughter Jennifer Mulholland and her husband Bruce Kenkel; beloved grandchildren, Hannah and Evan Mulholland, Carson and Elizabeth Mulholland, Alex and Beth Kenkel, Rachel and Blake Rosenquist, and Mason Kenkel; great grandchildren, Claire and Charlie Kenkel; other relatives and many friends.
