Freeda Hazel Richmond

Freeda Richmond, 100, of Glenwood, passed on September 11, 2014 at the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Private family services were held Saturday, September 13, 2014. Inurnment will be in West Virginia. Loess Hills Funeral Home of Glenwood in charge of arrangements.

Freeda Hazel Richmond, one of seven children of Millard and Delia (Breedlove) Brown, was born on March 23, 1914 in Griffithsville, West Virginia where she grew up and attended school.

Freeda and Henry Mallie Richmond were united in marriage on June 10, 1930 in Logan, West Virginia. Their marriage was blessed with eleven children, Lester Ray, Lonie Ann, Helene Marie, Inice Mable, Autis Junior, Lillian Ruth, Estil Paul, Larry Lee, Sharon Kay, Dexter James, and Ruby Irene.

Freeda worked in the kitchen at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood for 15 years. She served 30 years in the RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) at the Glenwood State School and received award for her years of service. Freeda enjoyed sewing and quilting by hand and loved designing new quilt patterns.

Freeda and Henry were married 38 years when Henry passed away on October 24, 1968. For many years, Freeda shared an apartment in Glenwood with her son Dexter until she entered then Glen Haven Home in Glenwood.

Freeda passed away at Glen Haven on September 11, 2014 at the age of 100 years, 5 months, and 18 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Henry; sons, Lester Richmond and wife Lois and Autis Richmond; daughters, Mable Machniak, and Ruby Hager and husband Jeff; grandson Frankie Machniak; daughter-in-law Tina Richmond; son-in-law, Stanley Machniak Jr. and Herbert Thompson; brothers, Elery Brown and wife Bertha, Roy Brown, Don Brown, Emzie Brown and wife Perlie; and sisters, Zelva Adkins and husband Troy, and Thelma Barker.

Freeda is survived by her children, Lonie Derry and husband Floyd of South Sioux City, NE, Helene Thompson, of Alamogordo, NM, Lillian Clay and husband Dallas of Alkol, WV, Estil Richmond of Pacific Junction, IA, Larry Richmond and wife Sue of Newcomerstown, OH, Sharon Griffith and husband Gail of Yawkey, WV, and Dexter Richmond of Glenwood; 19 grandchildren; 33+ great grandchildren; 16+ great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
