–

Glenwood, Iowa

Harvey Dean Bolton, 82, who made his homes in Carson, Henderson, and Macedonia, passed away Thursday, March 14th, 2013, in Akron, Iowa. Harvey moved away from southwest Iowa to an apartment in Le Mars, Iowa, to be near his family in 2008. In 2010, Harvey moved to the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.

Harvey was the youngest child of Lorence George and Mona Irene (Higgins) Bolton. Harvey was born on a farm near Carson, Iowa, on September 17, 1930. He grew up in the Grove Township and attended Grove #4 country school until the family moved to Treynor, Iowa, in 1943. His family later moved to Macedonia in 1949, but Harvey continued his schooling at Treynor Public School and was a member of the graduating class of 1949.

Following high school, Harvey worked as a farm laborer until he enlisted in the United States Army on February 15, 1951. He was stationed near Munich, Germany during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged on January 31, 1953. Harvey was a member of the American Legion for 58 years, first in Henderson and later in Carson, Iowa.

After leaving the service, Harvey returned to farm work in east Pottawattamie County. He had worked as a truck driver for Schildberg Construction Company rock quarry of Crescent, Silver City, and Macedonia for 17 years when he retired in 1993.

Harvey loved sports. He could be found cheering at local high school games and watching sports on TV. His favorite sports to watch were little league baseball and basketball at any level. His love of sports is what lead him to be a coach for the Henderson Little League from 1961 to 1971. At the age of 60, he played in the mixed softball league.

Harvey married Doris Ranck in 1952 in Treynor, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with two sons: Donald Ancil Bolton and James Allan Bolton.

Harvey married Mary M. "Bette" (Johnson) Sowers in 1954 in Nodaway, Missouri. Harvey's family grew to include Bette's four young children. The couple later divorced.

Harvey made a home with June (Jordan) Strong for many years and was married to her in Carson, Iowa. They were married until her death in 1988. June's four children added to the family. June was "grandma" to Harvey's grandchildren.

Harvey married Lilly (Swanson) Long in Carson, Iowa, in 1990 and they were married nearly 14 years when Lilly passed away in 2003.

Harvey was preceded in death by his wives June and Lilly, his parents, and his brother Irvin Bolton.

Harvey is survived by his sons: Don Bolton of Council Bluffs and Jim Bolton and his wife Danelle of Akron, Iowa. He's also survived by his granddaughters: Dacia Bolton Bates and her husband Kevin of Merrill, Iowa, and Carissa Lewis and her husband Matt of Huxley, Iowa. Also left to mourn Harvey are his great-grandchildren: Kirsten, Draeden, and Kahra Lewis of Huxley, eight step-children, many step-grandchildren, sister-in-law Connie Bolton, and many nieces and nephews.
