Hazle Marie Schwinderman Obituary (1901

Hazle Marie Schwinderman, one of five children of George Wilkinson and Alice Madora (Bolton) Wilkinson, was born at her parent's home on the farm near Macedonia, Iowa on March 21, 1901. She attended country school and the Carson Consolidated School through the tenth grade. Following school, Hazle worked cleaning people's homes. Hazle and Kyle Hobson Doolittle were married in Blair, Nebraska in March of 1918. The young couple had been married for only nine months when Kyle died of pneumonia in December. On January 25, 1922, Hazle and Marion Cecil Schwinderman were married in the Fifth Avenue Parsonage in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They made their home in Macedonia and were blessed with two children, Alyce Darlyne and George Jacob. Hazle enjoyed being a mother and homemaker and loved to garden, quilt, and crochet. Hazle and Marion had been married 41 years when Marion died on June 13, 1963. Hazle continued to live in their home in Macedonia. Hazle served as president of the Helping Hand Circle for 46 years, president of the L.D.T. Club, and secretary of the Senior Citizens. She was an Honorary Member of the Macedonia United Methodist Church, had been named "Queen" of Donia' Day, and received the Governor's Volunteer Award in 2004. Hazle was known as "Mom" or "Aunt Hazle" to the Macedonia Class of 1941 and attended their annual reunions for many years. Over the span of her life, Hazle had traveled by horse, rail, bus, car, and finally by air. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. Hazle made many trips to California to visit her brother and family and also enjoyed trips with her daughter Darlyne and son-in-law Dale. At age 105, Hazle moved from her home to the Oakland Manor Care Center in Oakland, Iowa. While there, she remained active, attending functions and Sunday services and enjoyed visits from family and friends. Hazle died at the Manor on Sunday, October 21, 2007, at the age of 106 years and 7 months. Hazle was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Kyle Doolittle and Marion Schwinderman; son George Schwinderman; brother Irel Wilkinson and wife Edith; sisters Lois Wilkinson, Maude Johnson and husband Lee, Grace Braden and husband Bert; and son-in-law Dale Hobson. Hazel is survived by her daughter Darlyne Hobson of Macedonia, Iowa; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Interment in the Macedonia Cemetery.
