Helen Catherine Wingfield

Helen Catherine Wingfield, one of seven children of Marquis de Laffette Lincoln and Georgia Anna (Curtis) Lincoln, was born at her parent's home west of Pacific Junction, Iowa on October 2, 1915. Helen grew up in Pacific Junction and graduated from high school.
Helen and Robert Nelson Wingfield were married at Rock Port, Missouri on January 16, 1935. They made their home in Pacific Junction and were blessed with six children; Robert, Marian, James, Cherryl, Carol, and Norma. Helen enjoyed being a mother and homemaker and later worked as a Child Development Worker at the Glenwood State Hospital School for 34 years. She enjoyed caring for the residents at the school and continued on after retiring as a Foster Grandparent. Helen believed strongly in the foster program and loved to volunteer her time.
Helen and Robert had been married 50 years when Bob died on December 16, 1986. Helen continued to live in her home and enjoyed spending time with her family. She liked to quilt, read, loved a good yard sale, and cutting the lawn on her riding lawnmower.
Helen died at the Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on December 22, 2007 at the age of 92 years, 2 months, and 20 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bob Wingfield; brothers Ralph Lincoln and wife Velma, Earl Lincoln, Raymond Lincoln and wife Betty; sisters Esther Lemonds, Vera Smith and husband Donald; granddaughter Lisa Severn and grandson Reid North. Helen is survived by her sons Bob Wingfield of El Campo, TX and James Wingfield and wife Shelly of Pacific Junction; daughters Marian Carpenter and Cherryl Hayne of Commerce City, CO, Carol Pace and husband Theron of Ft. Morgan, CO, Norma Harless and husband Rick of Pacific Junction; sister Margaret Mintle Gehring and husband Art of Glenwood, IA and sister-in-law Donna Lincoln Garrett and husband Ross, all of Glenwood; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
