James Lloyd Canoyer, one of two children of Kate Marie (Bolton) Canoyer and Lloyd Edgar Canoyer, was born at his parent's farm home on June 18, 1923. Jim grew up on the farm and attended school in Carson, graduating with the Class of 1941. He went to Omaha and attended trade school and also worked at the Bomber Plant. During this time, he enlisted in the US Army, but due to a tragedy at home, was discharged after less than a year of service, to return home to help run the farm.
On September 14, 1946, Jim and Darline Vashti Storm were married at the United Methodist Church in Macedonia, Iowa. They made their home on the farm and their marriage was blessed with three children, Carol, Craig, and Jan. The family were active members of the Macedonia United Methodist Church where Jim had served on the church board.
Jim and Darline loved to ballroom dance and enjoyed many evenings at the Minden Dance Hall. They also liked to square dance, play cards, and Jim loved to sing. The couple traveled throughout the United States, Europe and Mexico, often with their friends and tour groups. Jim and Darline loved spending time with their family and attending wrestling meets, ballgames, all sporting events and activities of their children and grandchildren. In September of this year, Jim and Darline would have celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Jim passed away on May 22, 2011, at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of 87 years, 11 months, and 4 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mildred Hough and husband Lloyd.
He is survived by his wife Darline Canoyer of Carson; children, Carol Miller and husband Rod of Council Bluffs, Craig Canoyer and wife Kathy of Griswold, IA, and Jan Berg Kruse and Rod Kruse of Des Moines, IA; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.
Jim was most concerned about the Canoyer name being carried on. His grandfather was an only son, his father was an only son, Jim was an only son, and Craig was an only son. He was most pleased when his family legacy changed and the Canoyer name would continue on with the next generation.
Interment in Macedonia Cemetery.
