James A. Carter

James Allen "Herman" Carter, one of eight children of Ruby Jean (Higgins) and Lowell Thomas Carter, was born on June 17, 1952 in Clarinda, Iowa. The family moved to Carson, Iowa when James was in 3rd grade. He graduated from Carson-Macedonia High School in 1972. Following school, James joined the United States Army and served from 1972 to 1975.

James returned to Carson and began work at Schildberg Construction Company and worked there for 28 years. He enjoyed drag racing and spending time with his family.

James and Mary Sofia Hill were married on November 22, 1976 in Belen, New Mexico. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Kim, Michael, and Jesse. They were married 33 years when Mary passed away on August 22, 2010 at their home in Carson.

James passed away at home in Carson on May 17, 2011 at the age of 58 years and 11 months. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary Carter; and brothers, Randy Carter, Lowell Carter, and David Carter.

James is survived by his children, Jesse Carter and wife Tina of Oakland, IA, Kim Rooney of Hamburg, IA, and Michael Carter; brother Marvin Carter and wife Donna of Oakland; sisters, Dorothy Buse and husband Gary of Bellevue, NE, Cinda Frain and husband Jerry of Carson, and Grace Eyberg and husband Rick of Casa Grande, AZ; brother-in-law Bill Hill and wife Deb of Bosque Farms, NM; nine grandchildren; one great grandbaby due in August; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services are directed by the family. Following the services, a time a fellowship with the family will be held at the Carson Community Center.
