John Lewis Orr

John L. Orr, 94, of McClelland, IA, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Oakland Manor in Oakland, IA. A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the St. Clairce Cemetery in Ute, IA with military rites. Loess Hills Funeral Home of Carson, Iowa in charge of arrangements.

John Lewis Orr, son of Minnie Annie Marie (Aherns) and Andrew Tecumseh Orr, was born on February 17, 1920 in Ripley County, Indiana. He grew up with three sisters and six brothers. After graduating from high school, John enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he served during World War II. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad after a 20+ year long career. John also farmed in the McClelland, Iowa area for many years.

John and Lillian Elizabeth (Gray) Wilder, of Onawa, Iowa, were married on August 16, 1975 in Elk Point, South Dakota and moved to live in McClelland. They were married almost 23 years when Lillian died on August 2, 1998.

John enjoyed tinkering around the farm, hunting and was a proud supporter of the Republican Party.

John passed away at the Oakland Manor in Oakland, Iowa on July 14, 2014 at the age of 94 years, 4 months, and 27 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife Lillian; daughter Zoe Orr; and nine siblings.

John is survived by daughter Zuela M. Carter and husband Greg of Houston, TX; nephews, Roger Orr, and Ronald Orr and wife Patti Jo, all of Henderson, IA; niece Rosemary McClurg and husband Leonard of Shenandoah, IA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
