Memorials: Malvern Rescue

June Etta (Madison) Malcom, the third of four children of Lonnie and Viola (Smay) Madison, was born on December 30, 1922 on a farm in Fremont County, near Tabor, Iowa. Her mother died in 1936 and her father remarried Ida (Miller) Madison who finished raising June and her sister Beulah. She grew up and graduated from Tabor High School in 1940. Following graduation she married Carl Malcom on October 31, 1940 to which two sons were born.

June worked beside her husband Carl on the farm and enjoyed crocheting. Her mother-in-law, Edith, taught June how to crochet to which she passed that skill onto each of her three granddaughters and one grandson. She always taught each of them how to make a chain stitch and many of chains were made under her loving teachings. June was skilled at making many different designed dollies which she did more by seeing the pattern than by reading a pattern.

June enjoyed keeping a garden on the farm and loved planting roses. Her roses were her pride and joy. Even when they moved off the farm into Malvern she continued to have roses all along her walk way into their home. June and Carl also squared danced for many years. After they retired from farming, June and Carl spent their winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. There they met and became friends with people all over the US and Canada. They continued square dancing in Arizona until her back kept her from doing so but they always found a new project to keep them active. For 29 years they were able to winter in Arizona, until June's back health declined.

June entered into eternal rest, on February 8, 2014 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She attained the age of 91 years, one month, and nine days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Viola; step-mother Ida; infant siblings Bert G., and Thelma M. Madison and sister Beulah (Madison) Malcom.

June is survived by her beloved husband of 73 years, Carl Malcom of Glenwood; children Robert Malcom and wife Patricia of Malvern; Dale Malcom and wife Diane of Glenwood; grandchildren, Trisha Malcom of Wichita, Kansas; Christine Miller and husband Scott of Glenwood; Kathy Sievers and husband Colt of Lincoln, Nebraska; Dennis Malcom and wife Catherine of Seattle, Washington; great-grandchildren, Danisha Malcom; Sydney and Samantha Miller; Ethan Malcom; Colton and Carter Sievers, and a niece and many other relatives; and many friends.
