Karen Kay Gravett, 84 of Carson, IA, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, surrounded by her loving family.
Karen was born on June 3, 1941, in Carson, the daughter of Pleasant and Callie Mae (Overman) Hecker. She graduated from Carson High School in 1958. Karen was employed in lumber sales at Roberts & Dybdahl Inc, a wholesale building materials company in Omaha. After working there for 21 years, she retired in 2007.
Karen found joy in life’s simple, creative moments. She had a deep love for crafting, sewing, and painting. Just as meaningful to her was sharing those passions, patiently guiding family as they discovered their own creativity. Many family members and friends cherish the paintings, drawings, and quilts she lovingly created especially for them—a lasting reflection of her generous spirit and artistic heart.
She also enjoyed playing cards, where laughter and friendly competition were always part of the game. Pitch and Hand & Foot were among her favorites. She took great pride in tending to her garden, nurturing it with the same care she gave to those around her. Above all, Karen cherished time spent attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities, never missing an opportunity to support and celebrate them. These moments, surrounded by family, were among her most treasured.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson, Ace Anderson, and three brothers: Dean Gillenwater, Bob Gillenwater, and Gary Hecker.
Karen is survived by her children: Debra Anderson of Omaha, Dennis Boruff of Omaha, Leah Boruff of Carson, and Callie Kallsen (Mark Funkhouser) of Carson; grandchildren, Jake (Donell) Kvaal, Shiloh (Frank) Olmstead, Joshua (Leah) Rybin, Stephanie Stephens, Shauna Stephens, Skyler Stephens (Dustin Jager), Shayla Stephens, Hannah Boruff (David Putnam), Sammie Boruff, Maggie Boruff, Paige Kallsen (Adam Dailey), and Jacey (Joel) Becerra; great-grandchildren, Kayler Kallsen, Korbyn McIntire, Reegan Jager, Watson Jager, Bristol Jager, Estelle Rybin, Raelee Putnam, Malcolm Putnam, and Bennett Wilhelm; brothers, Keith (Betty) Hecker of Sorento, IL, and Michael (Connie) Hecker of Council Bluffs, IA; other relatives and many friends.
