Glenwood, Iowa
Larry Frederick Husz, son of Orville Claus Rudolph Husz and Helen Marie (Lembkuhl) Husz, was born March 12, 1934, on a farm home west of Macedonia, Iowa. Larry grew up in the Treynor and Macedonia area where he attended rural school near their farm home and then attended the Macedonia High School. At an early age, Larry began work as a hired hand for the local farmers.
Larry and Pauline Mable Hayter of Macedonia were married on July 4, 1950 and made their home in Macedonia. Larry began working for Paul Phillips at the Macedonia Lumber Yard where Paul was an excellent mentor for Larry. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Tracy, Steve, Bob, Becki, Kim, and Penny.
Larry soon began a 37 year career working for the Pottawattamie County Road Department headquartered at Carson, Iowa. He was pleased with the fact that as a young man he worked with many older county road employees and then as he became an older employee, was able to work with the younger employees. Larry also worked for Harvey Bolton every Saturday and as needed for 30 years. He retired from the road department in 1995. Larry was an active member of the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department and helped with community projects and events as needed. He and Pauline and their children were all members of the Macedonia United Methodist Church. Larry's greatest enjoyment was when he and Pauline could spend time with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and attend their many activities.
Larry fought his cancer and was cared for at home by Pauline, his family, and faithful hospice caregivers. His final care was at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa where, surrounded by his family, he died on May 27, 2006. He had attained the age of 72 years, 2 months, and 15 days.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Pauline, his wife of 55 years; their children, Tracy and Bruce Brubaker of Santa Teresa, NM, Steve and Barb Husz of Lexington, KY, Bob and Jane Husz of Council Bluffs, Becki Husz of Council Bluffs, Kim and Kevin Pash of Omaha, NE, and Penny and Dennis Langer of Hancock, IA; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; half-brother Monte Fox and Nancy of Nevada, MO; brother-in-law Bill Hayter and wife Peg of Corning, IA; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
