Lea LaVonne Combs, was born on February 18, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Clyde Ginder and Meril (Goble) Christiansen. She grew up in Pacific Junction, Iowa. It was here she met the love of her life, Ernest Combs. They were married on July 5, 1960 and were blessed with five children.
In her younger years, Lea enjoyed spending time outdoors with her family, going on picnics, swimming and fishing. A devoted Husker fan, she never missed a game. Lea enjoyed cooking and baking and was well-known for her cinnamon rolls and turkey gravy at Thanksgiving. If there was ever a costume, cake or school project that was needed, she was the "go-to" person. If anyone needed anything, Lea was always there to give. Many people would always go to "Ma's Country Store". She was also great with words and putting them down on paper. It is rumored that Lea wrote an unpublished novel about the life and times in Pacific Junction. She was a wonderful wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, an awesome aunt, and a good friend to all who knew and loved her.
Lea passed away on February 22, 2017 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 74 years and 4 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Paul Brant; grandson Jeremy Courtier; and granddaughter Kelley Lynn Combs.
Lea is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ernest Combs of Pacific Junction; children, Vickie (Wayne) Mauer of Pacific Junction, Keith Combs of Pacific Junction, Brian (Rochelle) Combs of Council Bluffs, Christine Courtier of Hastings, IA, and Mike (Linda) Combs of Pacific Junction; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister Laura Louise Alborn of Pacific Junction; and brother Dale (Rose) Brant of North Bend, NE; extended relatives; and many friends.
