Lois Ellen Benedict

Lois Benedict, 96 of Glenwood, IA, passed away October 15, 2017 at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Graveside inurnment service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 at the West Liberty Cemetery, rural Glenwood. There is no visitation.

Memorials are directed to the family.

Lois Ellen Benedict, one of five children of Ferdinand Detlef and Laura Johanna (Bichel) Jurgens, was born on August 23, 1921 in Mills County, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Lois was employed at Unitog in Glenwood, Iowa for many years.

Lois and Duane Norman Benedict were united in marriage on August 19, 1945 at St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola, Iowa. They were blessed with a son David.

Lois lived all her life in the Mineola area. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers, and feeding and watching the birds. Lois loved spending time with her family and grandkids. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, grandmother, sister, and a good friend to all who knew her.

Lois passed away at the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood on October 15, 2017, at the age of 96 years, 1 month, and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; great granddaughter Hadleigh Griffin; and siblings, Fern Rohrberg, Lorraine Leick, Gerald Jurgens, and Norma Sperry.

Lois is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Duane Benedict of Glenwood; son David Benedict and wife Lory of Malvern, IA; grandkids Stacy and her husband Curtis and Brian and his wife Samantha; great grandkids, Faylynn, McKynlee, Harper, Sloane, and Henry; extended relatives; and many friends.
