Lorraine Eleanor Grindle, one of four daughters of Nellie S. (Wedell) and Carl E. Olson, was born April 5, 1918 in Essex, Iowa. She grew up and attended schools in the York, Nebraska and Strahan, Iowa areas, graduating from Strahan Consolidated School in 1935. Lorraine was baptized at the Swedish Mission Church in Essex, Iowa and became a member of the United Methodist Church in York, Nebraska.
Lorraine and Guy Glen Grindle, Jr. were married on February 10, 1937 in Bartlett, Iowa. They lived and farmed in Mills County, Iowa, for all but five years, which were spent on a farm in Montgomery County, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Ramona Ann and Steven Lee. In 1949, Guy, fondly known as "Guydie", and Lorraine moved their family to live on the farm of Guydie's parents, Guy and Goldie (Forney) Grindle, near Malvern, Iowa.
Lorraine became a member of the Strahan United Methodist Church in 1932 and was active in Epworth League, served as Sunday School Superintendent for adult and children classes, and was a member of the Strahan U.M.W., in which she held many offices. Lorraine was the area election chairman for 20 years and treasurer of the Strahan Consolidated School District while Guydie was secretary for many years. She also served as the Strahan Elementary secretary for 10 years.
Lorraine enjoyed raising her family and helping Guydie on the farm. She was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed reading. Her love for music led her to sing with the church choir and in trios and duets for funerals. Lorraine cherished her family and was very proud of them. Any time spent together meant many more wonderful memories.
Lorraine and Guydie were married 56 years when Guydie passed away on November 2, 1993. Lorraine continued to live at the home place until 1999, when she moved to Malvern, and in 2010, Lorraine moved to Linnwood Estates in Glenwood, Iowa.
Lorraine passed away on August 12, 2012 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, at the age of 94 years, 4 months, and 7 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Guydie; and sisters, Carol Olson and Phyllis Lundgren.
