OBITUARY
Marilyn Louise (Black) Hexom, 80 of Malvern, IA, passed away Monday, May 27, 2024 at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA.
Marilyn was born on October 23, 1943 in Dunlap, IA, one of seven children of Frederick and Dorothy (Carpenter) Black. She graduated in 1962 from Woodbine High School in Woodbine, IA.
Marilyn and Charles Wilbur “Chuck” Hexom were united in marriage in Plattsmouth, NE on April 6, 1963. They made their first home in Shenandoah, IA and then later lived in Randolph, IA, before moving to live in Malvern. The couple was blessed with daughters, Robin (who died in infancy), Marla, Tamara, Margaret, and Joyce.
Marilyn was a busy wife and mother. Her family nicknamed her, Marilyn Andretti (she kinda had a lead foot while driving) or Marilyn Monroe of Malvern. Marilyn loved to cook and enjoyed reading, puzzles, and playing cards with her brothers. She loved spending time with her family, who were her pride and joy. Due to declining health, she lived with her granddaughter and great grandkids. Marilyn was a smiling and familiar face at Mulholland Grocery in Malvern where she worked for several years until her retirement. She was a wonderful sister, wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother, and a good friend to all who knew and loved her.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Chuck in 2006; infant daughter Robin; daughter Joyce Cowan; infant grandsons, Tacoma Lyons, Ryan Holsapple, and Isiah Holsapple; brother Dick Black; and sisters, Shirley Black and Cindy Boham.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Marla Fernandez of Omaha, NE, Tamara Holsapple and husband John of Omaha, and Margaret Waugh and husband Steve of Malvern; son-in-law Gary Cowan of Malvern; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Black and wife Sandy of Carter Lake, IA, Marvin Black and wife Glenda of Crescent City, FL, and Norman Black and wife Kathy of Lincoln, NE; brother-in-law Larry Schiernbeck of SD; several nieces, nephews and other relatives; and many special friends.
