Marty was born on September 3, 1958, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Kenneth Dwain and Phyllis LaVonna (Murphy) Green. He attended Davis County High School in Bloomfield, Iowa. Following high school, Marty proudly served his country in the United States Army.
On May 6, 1978, Marty married his high school sweetheart, Sherry Lynn Cole, in Bloomfield, Iowa. Together they were blessed with their daughter, Candace. Some of Marty's fondest memories were made during those years, working alongside his dad and brothers on the family farm. He had a strong work ethic that defined him throughout his life. Marty took great pride in every job he did and believed in giving his best.
In 1986, Marty graduated from Indian Hills Community College. The following year, his family moved to Malvern and he began his professional career. He was employed with Cray Research as a Maintenance Technician and was based at Offutt Air Force Base. During that time he accepted an assignment in Saudi Arabia, where he worked for four years. In 2000, Marty joined Nexterna in Omaha as a Field Support Manager, overseeing wireless communications for locomotives. After three years with Nexterna, he became a Communications Technician for the Glenwood Resource Center where he maintained the facility's telephony systems. Following the closure of the Glenwood Resource Center, Marty continued working remotely for the State of Iowa. He was looking forward to retiring at the end of July.
Marty was a devoted sports fan, but nothing compared to his passion for Husker football. He also enjoyed cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and attended many games over the years. More than the games themselves, Marty cherished sharing those experiences with family and friends. You could always count on hearing his optimistic prediction that "next year would be the year." Beyond sports, Marty enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, hosting poker nights, and playing golf.
Above all else, Marty treasured his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he loved nothing more than watching them grow, cheering them on at school and sporting events, and making memories together. Time spent with family and friends brought him his greatest joy.
Marty will be remembered as a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, brother-in-law, grandfather, and friend. He never knew a stranger, and his kindness, humor, quick wit, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Marty was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Green, and his mother, Phyllis Acton.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Sherry Green of Malvern; his daughter, Candace Palmer and husband, Chris, of Malvern; his stepmother, Carol Green of Malvern; his cherished grandchildren, Lincoln and Loycee Palmer of Malvern; his siblings, Shelly Green of Fairbanks, Alaska, Diana (Aaron) Anderson of Louisburg, Kansas, Scott (Crystal) Green of Jane, Missouri, and Tony (Kelly Burdette) Green of North Bend, Washington; mother-in-law Barb Cole of Bloomfield, Iowa; and sister-in-law Terry Carnahan (Darin) of Olathe, KS; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who will forever miss his humor, wisdom, friendship, and the joy he brought to their lives.
