Mary S. Carter

Mary Sofia Carter, one of two children of Joseph Thomas Hill and Erminia "Mini" Janet (Granata) Hill, was born in Elizabeth, New York on September 12, 1951. Mary grew up in Liberty, New York and Scotch Plains, New Jersey where she attended school.

Mary and James Allen Carter where married in Belen, New Mexico on November 22, 1976. The family eventually made their home in Carson, Iowa and were blessed with three children; Kim, Michael, and Jesse. Mary enjoyed her role as a homemaker and caring for her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and helping organizations in Carson with various projects and benefits.

Mary and James had been married 33 years when Mary died at their Carson home on August 22, 2010 at the age of 58 years, 11 months, and 10 days. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary is survived by her husband James Carter of Carson; children Kim Rooney and husband Darrin and Michael Carter all of Carson, and Jesse Carter and wife Tina of Oakland, IA; brother Bill Hill and wife Deb of Bosque Farms, NM; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Hertz Funeral Home of Carson assisted the Carter family with arrangements.
