Mary Sternberg, 93, of Carson, IA passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Carson. Burial will be in the Carson Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.

OBITUARY
Mary Catherine Sternberg, daughter of Moroni and Geneva Willeford Danielsen, was born on June 10, 1931, in Council Bluffs, IA, and died at the age of 93 at her home in Carson.

She attended Oak Street Grade School and Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, where she was the 1948 Abraham Lincoln Football Queen. During high school, she worked at Dixie Dress Shop as a salesperson and part-time bookkeeper while taking courses in salesmanship, marketing, and typing.

In 1949, she married Donald (Chris) Lee Sternberg, and together they joined Donald’s parent’s family farm. They enjoyed the everyday activities on the farm and lived in Carson for all of their 75 years of marriage. She volunteered at the Carson school as the room mother and served on many committees. She also taught adult Sunday school and summer school at the Presbyterian Church. On election days, she served as a poll worker. She was a past member of the BHB club in Carson. She was an avid member of the Botna Valley Genealogical Society at the Floyd Caughell genealogy room at Eckels Memorial Library in Oakland and served as Treasurer for several years. She enjoyed doing genealogical research on her family and spent over 20 years creating family history binders for her children and grandchildren. She and her husband were members of the 10x8 pinochle club for over 40 years. She also enjoyed reading, crosswords, sudoku, scramble, and solitaire.

She is preceded in death by her parents Moroni and Geneva Willeford Danielsen, her infant grandchildren, Richard, Rodrick, and Ryan, her brother Lloyd Danielsen and her sister Virginia Nelson (and brother-in-law Vernon), and her nephew Dan Danielsen.

She is survived by her husband Donald Sternberg, her brother Albert Danielsen (Eleanor) of North Myrtle Beach, SC, her sister-in-law Norma Danielsen of Honey Creek, IA, her children, Rick Sternberg (Marsha) of Carson, IA and Kristi Sternberg (John Fellows) of St. Louis, MO, five grandchildren: Darcelle Swope (Shane) of Valley, NE, Jacob Sternberg (Melissa) of Carson, IA, Julianna Fellows (Akshay Bhosale) and Michaela Fellows of St. Louis, MO, Caroline Fellows of Columbia, MO, five great-grandchildren: Riley and Kelcy Swope, Clayt, Koby, and Ruger Sternberg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
