Mary was born on May 22, 1944, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to William Miller and Maude Arlene (McIntosh) Stephens. She grew up in Honey Creek, Iowa, and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1962.
Throughout her life, Mary held a variety of jobs, with her final role as a casino hostess—a position that suited her warm personality and welcoming spirit.
Mary had a deep and abiding love for music, especially country western. Her passion was woven into the fabric of her life. Many of her favorite childhood memories were of performing music with her family, gathered together in joyful harmony. Whether she was strumming her guitar, playing the piano, singing, yodeling, or simply listening to her favorite tunes, music was more than a pastime—it was part of her soul.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Wagner; her son, Thomas Wagner; and her brothers, Jim, Frank “Fuzzy,” William “Buzz,” and Robert “Catfish” Stephens.
She is survived by her children: Tamara Tibbles of Macedonia, Scott Tomanio, Tonya Kirk, and Timothy Wagner, all of Council Bluffs; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother Donald Stephens of Honey Creek, Iowa; along with many other relatives and special friends.
