Matthew Buckner, age 22, died Sunday, April 5, 2009 as a result of injuries from an automobile accident. Matthew Kyle Buckner, one of four children of Phyllis Dorraine (Hammers) Buckner and Thomas William Buckner, was born on September 13, 1986 in Hamburg, Iowa. He grew up and attended schools in Malvern, Iowa. Matt received his GED in 2003 when he graduated from the Job Corps in Denison, Iowa. He returned to Malvern and ran heavy equipment for the union then worked as a farm laborer for Gary Smith in Mills County, Iowa. Matt enjoyed spending time with his friends, where the party was Matt was sure to be there. Matt would help anyone from fixing cars to giving them money or just keeping them company. Matt's quote" Whatever you gotta tell yourself to get through the day". Matt passed away at Creighton University Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska from injuries suffered from a vehicle accident on April 5, 2009 near Malvern. He attained the age of 22 years, 6 months, and 23 days. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph Hammers and Betty Hammers Bare; grandmother Phyllis Buckner; aunt Melissa Buckner; and uncle Keith Hammers. Matt is survived by his mother Phyllis Buckner of Malvern; father Tom Buckner of Omaha, NE; sister Rachel Buckner of Malvern; brothers, Andrew Buckner and wife Angela of Tabor, IA, and Tyler Buckner of Malvern; grandfather Marlin "Bucky" Buckner and special friend Connie Harper of Malvern; aunts, Linda Scott of Fort Dodge, IA, Joanne Bullock and husband Shelby of Ellston, IA, Regina Chambers and husband Charles of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Marie Campbell of Omaha, and Jennifer Ghanavati and husband Khosrow of Omaha; uncles, Marty Hammers of Hastings, IA and Roger Hammers of Clarinda, IA; niece Tyrakay Buckner; nephews, Tyler Jean Buckner and Wyatt Lawrance; many other relatives and friends. A memorial fund has been established.

matt was a great guy i only met him a few times but when i was around matt, it felt like i had know him my whole life he was very friendly and he knew how to make people smile thats for sure. im very sorry for the loss of his family, and matt will be forever missed by all, Kim and Bailee - kimberly

I wish I could be there when you walk through the door at Casey's to give you a hug a shoulder to cry on or just something sturdy to hold on to. Matt was taken to soon from this life but I believe that his wonderful smile, sparkling eyes, long eye lashes, round cheeks sometimes red, easy goin attitude, was needed in a far higher place.
