Merle Clausen

Merle Clausen, 77, of Treynor, IA passed at the Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs, IA on Thursday, September 10, 2026. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18,2026 at the Malvern Cemetery in Malvern, IA. Following the graveside services the family invites everyone to the Malvern Public Library (Carnegie Room) for a time of fellowship and sharing of stories. The family requests people to dress casual. Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood is caring for Merle and his family.
Merle Gene Clausen one of four children of Ervin and Mabel Irene (Hansen) Clausen was born on July 4,1949 in Council Bluffs, IA. He graduated from Treynor High School with the Class of 1967. He then attended school for computer in Ottumwa, IA for two years. Following this he returned home to Treynor where he owned and operated MC Equipment for 31 years.
Merle married Kathryn Poort on April 11,1987 in Malvern, IA. The couple was blessed with one son Shawn. They made their home in Mineola until 2000 when they moved to Mesa, AZ. Kathy passed away in 2013, and Merle moved back to the Treynor area.
Merle enjoyed going to farm auctions, visiting with friends and neighbors who would stop by the shop and Ford vehicles.
Merle is preceded by his parents; wife Kathryn; brother Larry Clausen; stepchildren Mark Crisler, Kimberly Crisler, and Dustin Crisler.
Merle is survived by his son Shawn Clausen of Treynor; grandson Ford Boxrud-Clausen; sisters Janice Harrill and Kathy Wangberg and husband Mark all of Treynor, IA; stepson Daniel Crisler of Austin, TX; brother-in-law Roger and Mary Poort of Malvern, IA and sister-in-law Lisa and Steve Dolezal of Franklin, TN; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of many special friends.
