OBITUARY
Nancy Ann Lipes, 67 of Glenwood, IA, passed away after a short illness on August 18, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE. She was a strong woman who fought hard from June 12, 2024, until August 18, 2024. Nancy never gave up hope or her fight. However, her body and the Lord decided it was time to take her home.
Nancy was born on December 9, 1956, to LeVern and Norma (Heiman) Schoening in Council Bluffs, IA. She graduated from Carson-Macedonia in 1975 and later graduated with an associate degree from IWCC. Nancy held many jobs throughout her life; dental assistant, JC Penney sales associate and office manager at Newman’s Thriftway which later became Russ’s Market in Glenwood, but her most important job was the love of her family, unconditionally. Nancy was a beacon of light and warmth by many she dearly loved.
Nancy was a cherished member of the Schoening family, sister to Cindy (Jeff) Rinderer of Salina, KS, David (Linda) Schoening of Silver City, IA, LaDonna (Jon) Coover of Council Bluffs, IA, and the late Gregg Schoening.
Nancy married John J. Tackett on October 28, 1978, and preceded her in death on July 5th, 1999.
She spent the remainder of her life with James “Jim” Lipes. They were married on April 21, 2007. They spent 18 years together in Glenwood. She married her beloved James Lipes in a beautiful ceremony at their family church St. John Lutheran in Mineola, IA, beginning a shared life filled with love and devotion.
Nancy took immense pride in being Matthew Coover's loving godmother, showering him with a deep, unwavering affection that extended beyond him to embrace his wife, Chasity, and their children, Kainnan and Brooklynn. Her heart, though unable to bear children of her own, overflowed with boundless love for all her nieces and nephews; Julia, Derrick, Tyler, Grant, Matthew, Melissa, Aaron, and Michelle, as well as to all her great-nieces and great-nephews whom she cherished & adored dearly. This profound love and commitment to her extended family were a testament to her nurturing spirit, finding fulfillment in the joy and milestones of those she cherished as her own. She dearly loved anyone’s children.
Nancy cherished “her kids.” Anyone who spent time with her would know that “her kids” were Kainnan and Brooklynn Coover; she shaped their young minds and loved them as her own. She spent countless hours with them, and her legacy will live on with them and through them. She spent countless hours with them and never missed a practice, a game, a lesson, or a milestone. Her famous sugar cookies, chocolate & butterscotch desserts, and Turkey and Cheese casserole were always made with love. Nancy's commitment to “her kids” always shone through with her passion and ability to drop everything and always be present no matter the situation. She was more than just a great Aunt. She was indeed a grandmother to the children and will be missed beyond words. We will forever cherish the memories and her comforting voice.
Nancy’s life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, the lives she touched, and the love she shared. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy will bloom eternally in the hearts of those she has left behind.
