Penae Lou Durfey

Penae Durfey, 70, wife of Jim Durfey, of Malvern, IA, passed away at their Malvern home on March 24, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern with burial in the East Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are directed to the family.

Penae Lou Durfey was born on March 5, 1947 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, the daughter of Earl Glen and Margaret Enid (Bruce) Owings. She grew up in Plattsmouth where she attended school.

Penae was blessed with two daughters, Beatrice Ann and Kelly Jo.

Penae and James Kendall Durfey were married on April 5, 1985 in Malvern, Iowa. Her family grew to include Jim's adult children, James Durfey and Terry Baker.

Penae loved flower gardening, animals and collecting glassware. She was a fabulous cook and baker; making many birthday and holiday dinners for her family. Penae was an avid Nebraska fan and enjoyed following her beloved Huskers. She enjoyed visits from friends and her family, who were her pride and joy. Penae was a wonderful wife, mom, grandma and great grandma and a good friend to all who knew and loved her.

Penae passed away on March 24, 2017 at her home in Malvern, at the age of 70 years and 19 days. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Penae is survived by her husband Jim Durfey of Malvern; her daughters, Bea Martin of Omaha, NE and Kelly Martin of Atchison, KS; Jim's children, Jim Durfey of Red Cloud, NE and Terry Baker of Pacific Junction; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; cousin Lenny Ladd of Lincoln, NE; and by her dog "Charlie".
