Ray Loring

Lewis Ray Loring, the oldest of ten children of Edward Madison and Mary Hampton (Sharp) Loring, was born on his parent's farm in Douglas County near Hebron, MO on May 15, 1907. Ray attended country school in the area. As a young man, he traveled to Oklahoma and to Washington State with relatives to search for work. In 1929, he came to the Carson, IA area and worked as a farm hand. He met Hazel V. Hooker and they were married on July 18, 1931 in Rockport, Missouri. They rented a farm west of Carson until 1943 and then purchased a farm east of Carson. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Louis Edward and Don Eugene. In 1972, Ray and Hazel retired from farming and moved into their new home in Carson. Among Ray's enjoyments were gardening, fishing and squirrel hunting. He was a 50-year member of the Coral Lodge No. 430 in Carson. Ray and Hazel had been married nearly 70 years when she passed away on July 8, 2001. Ray continued to live in their home until May of 2002, when he moved to Oakland Heights Assisted Living in Oakland, IA. Ray passed away at Alegent Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs on May 30, 2005 at the age of 98 years and 15 days.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; wife Hazel; brothers Joseph Loring, Donald Loring, William Loring and James Loring; sister Lucille Peters; and great grandson Khaled Aboamera.
Ray is survived by his sons, Louis and wife Carolyn of Macedonia, IA and Don Loring and wife Marlene of Harris, IA; grandchildren Robin Loring of Council Bluffs, IA, Tammy Roberson and husband John of Henderson, IA, Jeffrey Loring and Maria Jansen, Lisa Aboamera and husband Mastor all of Harris, IA, Daniel Loring of Sioux Falls, SD; great grandchildren Douglas Reed and wife Camber, Jodi Giles and fiancA(c) Timothy Minor, and Ryan Lockwood all of Oakland, IA, Jennifer Lockwood of Council Bluffs, Jacob Kimball and wife Cassidy of Big Springs, TX, Raymond and Cheyenne Roberson of Henderson, IA; Katelyn Loring and Ramsey Aboamera of Harris; great great grandchildren Meghan and Tyler Reed of Oakland and Kirah and Ashton Kimball of Big Springs, TX; brother Edward Loring, Jr. and wife Nina of Sheridan, WY; sisters Irene Stephen of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Mae Reed of West Plains, MO, and Ruth Reed of Pinehurst, ID; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
