OBITUARY
Richard Hiram Cool, 74 of Henderson, IA, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
Richard and Diane Reed were blessed with a daughter Sarah Cool in November 1991.
Richard was born on October 18, 1951 in Council Bluffs, IA, the son of Hiram and Pauline (Hoffer) Cool. He graduated from Nishna Valley High School in 1969. He went straight into farming with his parents. In 1971, Richard’s dad passed away. He and his mother Pauline continued to keep the farm going. While they had 500 acres of corn, beans, hay, and cattle, his pigs were the highlight of the farm.
In 1974, Richard started pulling garden tractors at local fairs, then he moved up to mini rods. In 1981, Richard bought a burnt up IH 966 and turned it into a pro stock called Hot Stuff, pulling with Iowa Tractor Pullers and NTPA. In 1997, Richard joined Outlaw & NTPA and ran in the diesel super stock class. In 2018, Richard turned his pulling tractor over to his daughter Sarah where she has continued on with his legacy. In 2020, Richard was inducted in the Iowa Tractor Pullers Association Hall of Fame.
Richard enjoyed farming, gardening, especially growing cherry tomatoes; attending tractor pulls, tinkering around the farm, and loved the challenge of making his own gadgets. He was a hard worker and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Richard loved farming side by side with his daughter Sarah. His two granddaughters, Sadie and Saige were his pride and joy.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Pauline.
Richard is survived by his loving companion Diane Reed; daughter Sarah (Paden) Knoke; granddaughters, Sadie and Saige Knoke; step son Mike Reed; along with many, many friends.
